Perhaps almost a decade after its peak the Pokémon mania has resurfaced again and it is crazier than ever! From adults to children you find everyone searching for their favorite Pokémons, it is somewhat like fulfilling a dream to become a Pokémon master. Pokémon fans can now feel much closer to their favorite fiction characters by finding them anywhere at any time. And most of all the game provides its users an opportunity to adopt a much healthier lifestyle by giving them an incentive to walk around and explore their native lands.

It works by locating where you are in the game by using your phones GPS and then makes Pokémon appear somewhere around you. Pokémon go has taken the world by storm. An app has been able to accomplish what mere human will power for self-improvement could not exercise. This begs the question: how else can this app and/or the idea it is based on be used to promote other ventures? The advertising sector could learn and benefit a great deal from the amount of influence such an app has on the individual.
Research needs to be conducted on the impact of introducing a “poke stop” to promote a service or a product, for example this could be used in a restaurant that is seeking to increase the number of customers it can draw in or at a salon that lacks recognition. With the average number of hours spend daily on Pokémon Go topping those spent on Facebook, twitter, instagram and snapchat, it has become vital to tap into the opportunities that such success is creating and see if we are able to ride on its coat tails. Moreover the increasing interest and involvement of people in this game as discussed above, can make it a much more effective and impactful way to promote businesses as compared to Yelp or Foursquare.

Pokémon Go is changing the worldview that technology has chained the individual to a chair, be it with his/ her laptop, phone or any other gadget, with people interacting with other players, going outside and walking where they wouldn’t have gone before. It is allowing people to go and have their own little adventures while at the same time promoting movement, capitalizing on the nostalgia associated with Pokémon characters. Who knew Nintendo could reinvent itself in such an innovative way that it could put Madonna to shame?
